Why "The Salty Bulldog"?
In 1989 - a year very prevalent in the history of the Western Bulldogs - a woman named Gloria Rand wrote and published a book called Salty Dog. 27 years later, a copy of the very same book found its way onto the desk of coach Luke Beveridge, who insisted on having a copy printed for every player and coach at the club. The book discusses the concept of facing your fears and exploring outside of our comfort zone; something that the Bulldogs did time and time again in Season 2016 - a season where the Dogs overcame a multitude of challenges to achieve their first Premiership in 62 years. The Salty Bulldog pays tribute to the poetic backstory that exists within one of the most famous years in the club's long and illustrious history.
